Tech Question - Cutting Coil Springs

Mike,

I need to lower the front of my car approximately 1 to 1 1/2 inches. I understood from your " Question of The Week " answer, that you would cut an inch off the spring to lower it an inch but people are telling me that I am reading that wrong and that I would have to cut 1/2 to 3/4 of a coil to lower the car 1 inch. Would you please confirm approximately how much I should be cutting.

Thank you again for your assistance. - Dave

Dave,

If you measure the free height of the spring, out of the vehicle, and then move around the coil until you get a measurement one-inch less I'll bet you it will be about 1/2 to 3/4 of a coil down. - Mike.
