Limp in - Leap Out

1937 - 2007

(and still going)

How's this for being crazy.

The year is 1937 and it is in the middle of the Great Depression.

Detroit Steel Products Company

Unemployment is around 25%.

Banks have failed and the largest gatherings are at the food lines.

And along comes Frank and Grace Eaton, two people with three young kids, chasing after the American Dream. Hocking everything they had they buy the aftermarket division of Detroit Steel Products for $11,000.00 !!!

For the next couple of years they run their empire in the confines of DSP's massive plant on the outskirts of downtown Detroit until the day came in 1939 when they were told the lease would not be renewed.

With little notice they moved lock, stock and barrel to a 14,400 square foot building on the corner of Michigan and Trumbull.

If you are a baseball fan then this corner should sound familiar for we share the corner with the old Tiger Stadium., the former home of the Detroit Tigers.

Many years have gone by with a few changes and we still use this plant to produce springs.

Frank and Grace are no longer with us and over the last 70+ years, EATON Detroit Spring, Inc. has grown to be the leading producer of springs for the restoration and street rod markets.

No other spring manufacturer is known to have over 24,000 Original Equipment Spring Blueprints.

No other spring manufacturer has been chosen by Ford Motor Company and General Motors Company as authorized producers of authentic replacement springs.

No other spring manufacturer is owned by the founder's grandson and is overseen by their great-granddaughter.

If you are ever in Detroit, stop by, we would be glad to give you the nickel tour. (same price as in 1937)
